For Sri Lankan students planning 2026 intakes. You can get a university offer and a student visa without sitting IELTS — here's how, and which routes fit you.
Yes. IELTS is just one way to prove your English — not the only way. Many universities across Europe, India, Canada, Australia and the UK accept English-medium schooling, a Medium of Instruction (MOI) letter, alternative tests, or their own assessment instead. At WAAZ we check your profile first and pick the route with the highest acceptance odds, so you don't pay for or stress over a test you may not need.
If you studied in English, many universities accept a letter from your school or college as proof of English proficiency.
Graduates whose degree was taught in English can often get the language requirement waived with an MOI letter from their university.
Some bachelor's programmes accept a strong Sri Lankan O/L or A/L English grade (often a B or above) in place of IELTS.
PTE, TOEFL and Duolingo English Test are widely accepted — often cheaper, faster and easier to book than IELTS.
Some universities run their own short English interview or online test instead of requiring IELTS.
